FAQ

What is a vinyl deck membrane ?

It is a traffic membrane available in a roll, usually 6 feet by 75 feet long, similar to linoleum flooring.  The product is glued to the substrate, usually plywood or concrete.  If more then one sheet of membrane is required, seams are overlapped by approximately 3/4 of an inch and heat welded together with a hot air tool.  It is very durable, available in different colours and prints, and 100% waterproof.

Where is the product used ?

Specifically manufactured for use as a 'pedestrian' walking surface on areas requiring waterproofing such as; decks, balconies, rooftop patios, garage roof decks etc..

Why choose a vinyl deck membrane instead of a 2x4 or 2x6 wood deck?
  1. A vinyl membrane creates a dry area below the deck for useable space
  2. Vinyl will not rot or splinter
  3. Unlike wood, vinyl membranes do not require periodic staining, or any other maintenance
  4. A GLOBAL DEC-K-ING SYSTEMS deck will outlast most wood decks
  5. Good for the environment, after 15 years if you want a fresh 'look', a new membrane can be installed over the existing one.

How extensive is the maintenance ?

The only maintenance required is periodic cleaning which is done using a GLOBAL DEC-K-ING SYSTEMS cleaner or mild soap, diluted in a bucket of lukewarm water.  A bristle brush with hose or a pressure washer using low pressure can also be used

If damaged, can it be repaired ?

Yes, GLOBAL DEC-K-ING SYSTEMS can be easilly repaired if damaged.  Another piece of the same product can be melted onto the damaged area using our hot air welder.

What kind of surface is required for installation of a vinyl deck membrane?

A solid surface such as plywood, concrete or fiberglass.
